Dear People,
We’ve been poring over the photos and feedback from last week’s concert – which was the last of the season – and thinking back to last summer, when we first started dreaming of what the season could be. Remember? It was a time of great uncertainty, and yet great hope… of light at the end of the tunnel, and yet no clear path for how to proceed.
It was thinking of YOU that helped us to find our way. You are part of an audience that is discerning, bold, caring, fun-loving, and mindful. You are our community. We do what we do for you.
So – as one of our singers pointed out – we began and ended the year with JOY! From our triumphant return to Carnegie Hall in December with “A Joyful Noise”, to our bucolic summer sing at Waterline Park last Wednesday evening, which ended with Ricky Ian Gordon’s setting of the iconic Langston Hughes poem, JOY.
After nearly two years apart, MasterVoices has come back stronger than ever. We’ve done it by staying true to our founder’s vision: to make music in a way that makes a difference. It was true of our very first concert in 1942 at Riverside Church, when we sang to lift the spirits of a world shaken by World War II, and it has been true in this, our 80th year of concert-giving, when we sang to lift the spirits of a world run down by a years-long global pandemic.
