Dear Friends,
I hope you are doing as well as can be at this strange time, and that our Home Edition emails have been providing a brief moment of grace and levity to your week. I wanted to check in with you myself this week – while we’re still in scary times, one thing has become abundantly clear: the most important thing we can do is stay in touch with our friends.
I’ve been lucky enough to participate in some joyous and emotional Zoom-reunions over the past couple of weeks. One with the original company of TITANIC, another with THE FULL MONTY, and just last night, one with the cast of FLOYD COLLINS. It’s really wonderful to reconnect with old friends and share memories.
Equally joyous have been the Zoom sessions that MasterVoices has held as a chorus – aside from the comfort of seeing so many beloved faces, we’ve been joined by Vicki Clark (who tried to stump me at Charades with a title of 13 words!) and one with Kelli O’Hara (who played Celebrity and ran me through a lexicon of 20 names in a minute!). I feel blessed to be part of such a large family of folks from different places and experiences, who come together out of a sheer love of making music.
And on that somewhat teasing note, we’re using this “paused” moment as something of a chrysalis, from which we will emerge with some truly special plans. I leave you with two videos that almost feel like a time capsule to me now – made on the first weekend of the Pause, they were my contribution to a 24-hour live-streamed event called Music Never Sleeps NYC. I’ll let you click on them yourself to reveal the songs I chose to do. Insider’s Note: they also mark the filmmaking debut of my two young daughters!
