Board Member Role & Obligations

Board Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend or call-in to quarterly board meetings.
  • Review and approve annual budget.
  • Participate in evaluation of the organization’s goals, leadership, and board performance.
  • Lend professional expertise whenever possible.
  • Actively serve on at least one Board committee and/or task force.
  • Attend performances, participate in scheduled cultivation events throughout the year, and make every effort to bring guests to these events.
  • Demonstrate support for MasterVoices by promoting its work, generating goodwill, supporting its fundraising efforts, and keeping informed about its programs and activities

Required Minimum Annual Board Gift (RMABG)

Standard Members:

  • Gift of $10,000 per Fiscal Year, for general operating support (7/1 – 6/30)
    May include cash, securities, Donor Advised Funds, direct corporate matches, IRA accounts.
  • Event ticket purchases totaling $2,250 each Fiscal Year
    Board members should make every effort to use events to introduce new faces to MasterVoices.

Young Professional Members:

  • Gift of $5,000 per Fiscal Year, for general operating support (7/1 – 6/30)
    May include cash, securities, Donor Advised Funds, direct corporate matches.
  • Event ticket purchases totaling $1,750 each Fiscal Year
    Board members should make every effort to use events to introduce new faces to MasterVoices.

Pro-rated RMABG in year of joining the board:

  • For board members voted in July 1 – December 31, the first year RMABG is 100% of above.
  • For board members voted in January 1 and later, the first year RMABG is 50% of above.
  • For board members voted in during the May/June board meeting, the first year RMABG is 0% of above.

 Expected “Gets” and Other Fundraising (not applied to RMABG)

  • Soliciting/connecting to contributions from other individuals, foundations or corporations.
  • Gala and event tickets in addition to the required minimum above, e.g. benefit tables.
  • Auction purchases over the stated value of the auction item, if there is one and donations.
  • Additional giving/fundraising for auction items, special projects, initiatives (e.g. Rees Fund), or needs
